What version of PowerPoint do I have?
When you start searching for technical support, one of the first questions you'll be asked is "Which version of PowerPoint do you use?"
Because the different versions of PowerPoint and Office work/behave so differently, it's important to let people know which version you have when you ask for support.
OK, so how do I know which version I have?
It used to be easy before Microsoft improved it into obscurity. So let's start with the easiest steps first and work our way down into the darkness:
Start PowerPoint. If you have a slower PC or *very* fast eyes, you might be able to read the version on the "splash screen" that appears while PowerPoint is starting up. If not, read on ...
In PowerPoint 2003 and prior, you'll find a menu bar at the top of the PowerPoint window, just below the title bar. Like this:
Click Help, then About Microsoft PowerPoint.
At the top of the window that appears, you'll see the PowerPoint version.
If your copy of PowerPoint looks more like this, you have PowerPoint 2007. Notice the "Office Orb" at the top left corner:
