Search the web for PowerPoint help

Looking for PowerPoint help (or anything else) on the web?

I have one word for you: Google

Google is fast, smart, effective, isn't pockmarked with ads, doesn't spawn zillions of stupid popups and it doesn't besiege you with fake "hits" that are really paid ads ... in short, it's a real search engine. A great one. The only good one, in my book.

One problem you'll notice right away when searching for PowerPoint-specific information: if you include "PowerPoint" or "PPT" in your search terms, you'll get bazillions of hits, most of them irrelevant, because Google's found PowerPoint presentations (and since they're listed as such, the listing includes "PPT" or "PowerPoint").

To eliminate these bogus hits, include this in your search terms: "-filetype:ppt" (without the quote marks)
That tells Google to exclude PPT files from the results it gives you.

If you want to narrow your search down to newsgroup postings, visit Google's Advanced Group Search

You can limit your search to articles posted in the PowerPoint newsgroup. Type "microsoft.public.powerpoint" in the newsgroup box.

For an even more focused search, try searching the PPT FAQ (you're lookin' at it - use the search box at the top of the main page).

Thanks to Indezine Magazine publisher Geetesh Bajaj, now you can search all of the sites in the PowerPoint Association, a loose federation of the premier PowerPoint resource sites on the net.
